Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the Green Electric Bus service in Layyah, expanding the province’s eco-friendly public transport network. The initiative is aimed at providing residents with affordable, modern and environmentally friendly transportation while improving public mobility across the district.
The chief minister formally launched the service through an online ceremony, while the local inauguration was held at the Layyah Sports Complex. According to the district administration, Deputy Commissioner Asif Ali Dogar, accompanied by political leaders and officials, inaugurated the service by cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
Speaking at the event, the deputy commissioner said the Green Electric Bus service would offer affordable and reliable transportation for students, women, senior citizens and office workers. He said the introduction of low fares and modern facilities would help reduce daily commuting costs for passengers.
Officials said the air-conditioned electric buses have been introduced to provide a safe, comfortable and convenient travel experience. The new service is expected to improve the quality of public transport while encouraging more people to use environmentally friendly modes of transportation.
The deputy commissioner added that the electric buses would also play an important role in reducing air pollution by lowering emissions compared to conventional diesel-powered vehicles. He said the project supports the Punjab government’s vision of promoting cleaner and greener cities.
According to the district administration, the launch of the Green Electric Bus service marks an important milestone in improving transport infrastructure in Layyah. Authorities believe the service will make daily travel easier for thousands of commuters while supporting sustainable urban development.
The Punjab government has been expanding its public transport network through modern and environmentally friendly initiatives in different cities. Officials say similar projects are expected to improve connectivity, reduce traffic-related pollution and provide better transport facilities for the public across the province.
