Sindh Warns Private Schools Over Illegal Fee Hikes

The Sindh government has warned private schools against increasing tuition fees or collecting unauthorized charges from parents, stating that institutions violating the rules could face suspension or cancellation of their registration. The move comes after complaints that several schools had imposed fee hikes and additional charges without obtaining approval from the relevant authorities.

According to a directive issued by the School Education and Literacy Department, some private schools have increased fees beyond the approved limits or collected hidden charges from parents without prior permission. The government said such practices violate the rules governing private educational institutions in Sindh.

In a notification sent to all private school heads, Additional Director General of Private Institutions Prof. Rafia Mallah reminded schools that charging any amount other than the approved tuition fee without prior approval is a violation of the Sindh Private Educational Institutions (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2005.

The notification further stated that collecting tuition fees in violation of the approved fee structure or imposing additional charges without authorization is a punishable offense under the Sindh Private Educational Institutions (Regulation and Control) Ordinance, 2001.

School administrations have been directed to strictly follow the approved fee structure and ensure complete transparency. They have also been instructed to prominently display the approved fee schedule on school notice boards and reception areas and provide copies to parents whenever requested.

The Sindh government reiterated that collecting hidden or extra charges beyond the approved fee is strictly prohibited. Authorities warned that schools found violating the regulations will face legal action, including suspension or cancellation of their registration.

In addition, all unregistered private schools have been directed to submit their registration applications through the official online portal within 15 days. The government said the step is aimed at bringing all educational institutions under the regulatory framework.

The notification also advised individuals and organizations planning to establish new private schools to ensure they meet all standards and requirements set by the Sindh School Education Department before applying for registration. Institutions that fail to meet the required criteria will not be registered and may be closed by the district administration, with affected students shifted to nearby schools.
