Punjab Orders Closure of All Theatres for Muharram

The Punjab Arts Council has announced that all theatres across the province will remain closed from the 1st to the 13th of Muharram-ul-Haram. An official notification has been issued directing theatre owners and managements to suspend all stage dramas and cultural performances during the mourning period.

According to the notification, no theatrical or entertainment events will be allowed to take place throughout the first thirteen days of Muharram. The decision has been taken in observance of the holy month and to maintain the sanctity and respect associated with the occasion.

Theatre managements across Punjab have been instructed to ensure full compliance with the directive. Authorities have warned that the ban on performances must be strictly followed, with relevant departments expected to monitor implementation during the designated period.

Meanwhile, preparations for Youm-e-Ashura are being intensified across the country. Provincial governments and district administrations are reviewing arrangements for religious processions and gatherings, including the assessment of routes and logistical planning to facilitate peaceful observance.

Law enforcement agencies have also been directed to strengthen security measures by deploying additional personnel at sensitive locations. Authorities are working on comprehensive contingency plans to effectively respond to any emergency situation that may arise during Muharram-ul-Haram.

Officials said the objective of these measures is to maintain peace, ensure public safety, and provide a secure and respectful environment for mourners participating in religious activities. Coordination among security agencies and local administrations is being further enhanced to promote religious harmony and prevent any untoward incidents during the observance period.
