Islamabad Police Announce Traffic Plan for Marka-i-Haq Event

Islamabad police on Saturday announced an extensive traffic diversion plan ahead of the “Marka-i-Haq” event, which is expected to be attended by the country’s senior civilian and military leadership. Authorities have also warned residents about major road closures, possible flight disruptions, and heightened security arrangements across the federal capital.

Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon said temporary traffic diversions would remain effective from 6 pm until midnight on Sunday on several important roads in connection with the commemorative ceremony.

The event is expected to take place at the National Monument near Zero Point and is being organized to mark what Pakistani authorities describe as the country’s success during last year’s military confrontation with India following the April 22 Pahalgam attack and Pakistan’s subsequent “Operation Bunyanum Marsoos.”

In a statement shared on social media platform X, the deputy commissioner urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during peak hours and cooperate with traffic officials to help maintain smooth traffic flow.

According to Islamabad Traffic Police, Srinagar Highway will remain closed on both sides from Korianwala Chowk to Peshawar Mor during the specified hours. Similarly, Islamabad Expressway traffic from Faizabad towards Khayaban Chowk and Faisal Avenue will also be restricted.

Authorities advised commuters travelling from the motorway towards Murree and Bhara Kahu to use alternate routes including 9th Avenue, IJP Road, and Murree Road. Motorists travelling from Murree and Bhara Kahu towards the motorway have also been instructed to use Murree Road, Faizabad, IJP Road, and 9th Avenue.

Traffic police issued additional alternative routes for residents travelling between Islamabad’s Red Zone, adjoining sectors, and Rawalpindi. Vehicles entering Islamabad through the Expressway will be diverted via Faizabad, IJP Road, and 9th Avenue.

Authorities further announced that all light transport vehicles will be redirected from Rawat T-Cross towards Rawalpindi from 5 pm until midnight on Sunday. Meanwhile, entry of heavy transport vehicles into Islamabad will remain completely banned from 4 am until midnight on May 10.

The arrangements come amid increased security preparations and recent Pakistan Air Force rehearsal flights over Islamabad and Rawalpindi ahead of the ceremony.
