Government Announces New Market Timings After Relaxing Early Closure Rules

Islamabad authorities have announced revised Market Timings for several businesses as part of ongoing austerity measures in the federal capital. The updated notification offers relief to some sectors, while restrictions remain in place for others.

According to the district administration, gyms, sports facilities, and paddle courts are no longer required to close at 8pm. These businesses can now continue operations late into the night. Officials said the decision was made to support citizens involved in fitness and recreational activities.

The revised notification comes as authorities continue efforts to manage energy consumption and enforce austerity policies across Islamabad. While some businesses received exemptions, the government maintained strict rules for commercial markets and shopping areas.

Under the updated Market Timings, shops, markets, and shopping malls must still close by 8pm. Authorities said the restriction remains necessary to support energy-saving measures introduced earlier this year.

However, restaurants, food outlets, and grocery stores have been given additional operating time. These businesses will now be allowed to remain open until 10pm. Wedding halls, marquees, and commercial event venues will also continue operating until 10pm under the current policy.

The administration clarified that essential services will remain fully exempt from the restrictions. Hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories, petrol pumps, CNG stations, and milk and yogurt shops can continue operating without any time limits. Officials said uninterrupted access to basic services remains a top priority.

The notification also provided relief to the technology sector. Call centres and IT companies working with international clients will not be affected by the revised Market Timings. Authorities acknowledged the importance of these industries for international business operations and foreign clients.

In addition, takeaway and home delivery services will continue without any timing restrictions. Residents will still be able to order food and other items late at night despite limits on physical business operations.

The revised notification reflects the government’s attempt to balance economic activity with energy conservation efforts. Authorities may continue reviewing the policy depending on future conditions and public response.
