US President Donald Trump has announced a hike in tariffs on cars and trucks imported from the European Union, raising them to 25 percent.
In a post shared on his platform Truth Social, Trump claimed the EU has failed to meet its trade obligations, stating that the revised tariffs on European vehicles will come into effect next week.
He clarified that vehicles produced by European companies within the United States would remain exempt from these duties.
Trump further said that multiple automobile and truck manufacturing facilities are currently being developed across the U.S., with total investments surpassing $100 billion, calling it an unprecedented level of spending.
He added that these new plants are expected to generate jobs for American workers and will begin operations soon, highlighting what he described as a historic surge in industrial activity across the country.
