Pakistan is currently facing a growing Gas Shortage as imported RLNG supplies drop sharply. The situation has created pressure on both industrial and domestic energy users across the country.
Recent data shows that gas availability has fallen to around 700 million cubic feet per day. This is nearly 50 percent lower than the earlier level of about 1,200 MMCFD. The decline began after disruptions in global energy supply chains.

Officials from Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited say RLNG reserves are depleting quickly. They warn that the system is under severe stress due to high demand and limited imports.
Pakistan relies heavily on imported RLNG to meet its energy needs. Domestic gas production is not enough to support total consumption. This dependence has made the system more vulnerable to global market changes.
Energy experts link the current crisis to disruptions in international LNG shipments. Regional tensions have affected shipping routes, especially through the Strait of Hormuz. This has reduced the flow of energy cargoes.
As a result, the Gas Shortage has started impacting electricity production. Several gas-based power plants are unable to operate at full capacity. This is affecting overall power generation in the country.
Despite the crisis, gas officials say efforts are being made to manage distribution. Priority is being given to household consumers during peak cooking hours.
However, supply remains limited, and many areas are still experiencing pressure. The Gas Shortage has also affected industrial operations, especially in energy-dependent sectors.
The current situation is a major change from last year. At that time, Pakistan had surplus LNG and even cancelled several cargo shipments due to lower demand.
Now, the country is facing a sharp reversal in supply conditions. Authorities are trying to balance available resources while managing demand across sectors.
