Islamabad Releases Traffic Plan Ahead of Possible US-Iran Talks

Authorities in Islamabad have implemented strict security measures and issued a comprehensive traffic plan ahead of the expected second round of US-Iran peace talks in the capital.

As part of heightened security arrangements, the Red Zone and its extended areas have been completely sealed. The Islamabad Police released a detailed ten-point traffic advisory, which includes a ban on the entry of heavy vehicles into the city to reduce congestion and ensure safety.

Key routes have been affected under the new plan. The Expressway from Korral to Zero Point has been closed, with commuters advised to use alternative routes. Traffic movement on Srinagar Highway may also be temporarily halted at intervals depending on security requirements.

Residents of sectors G and F in Rawalpindi have been advised to use Margalla Road for access to Ninth Avenue. Meanwhile, traffic on Faisal Avenue will be redirected from Zero Point toward Ninth Avenue to manage the flow effectively.

The stretch between Zero Point and Korral Chowk has been shut, and commuters are encouraged to use Srinagar Highway as an alternate route. For intercity travel, heavy traffic from Peshawar heading toward Lahore via GT Road will be diverted to the Motorway through Taxila.

Similarly, vehicles coming from Lahore on GT Road are instructed to use the Chakri Interchange via Rawat, while heavy traffic exiting the Motorway at Chakri will move through Chak Baeli and Rawat before rejoining GT Road.

Officials have clarified that these arrangements are temporary and have been put in place to ensure smooth traffic management and maintain security during the high-level diplomatic engagements in Islamabad.
