Iran Lists Six Conditions for Ceasefire with US, Israel

US President Donald Trump stated that discussions with Iran have been “productive” and announced a temporary five-day pause in strikes on Iranian energy facilities to allow talks to continue. However, Iranian officials rejected claims of any direct communication with the Trump administration, creating confusion over whether negotiations are truly underway.

This conflicting narrative has raised doubts about the reality of diplomatic engagement, with some analysts suggesting the statements may be aimed at stabilizing global markets, especially amid tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has presented its stance as part of a calculated and defensive strategy, emphasizing “strategic patience.” Officials have made it clear they are not in a hurry to de-escalate, rejecting immediate ceasefire proposals while asserting strong military positioning and regional influence.

Iran has outlined several key demands before agreeing to any ceasefire. First, it seeks solid and enforceable guarantees to ensure that hostilities will not restart after an agreement. Tehran insists that past experiences, including significant losses and targeted attacks, make such assurances essential.

Another major demand is the withdrawal of US military bases from Gulf countries, which Iran views as a direct threat to its security. Additionally, it is calling for financial compensation to cover damages caused during the conflict.

Tehran is also pushing for a broader end to ongoing regional conflicts, aiming for a wider de-escalation beyond just its own situation. It further wants a revised legal framework governing the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil route, to reflect new strategic realities.

Lastly, Iran has demanded legal action against certain media figures it accuses of working against the state, including their prosecution and extradition.

These conditions reflect Iran’s aim for deeper geopolitical changes rather than a simple ceasefire. Despite international mediation efforts, Iranian officials appear firm, indicating that any agreement will only be accepted on terms that align with their long-term strategic goals.
