The Pakistan Cricket Board has reportedly directed a Pakistan Super League franchise to adjust its branding, leading to the team now appearing as “Rawalpindiz” across its official social media platforms. The move comes as part of efforts to ensure that franchise names clearly reflect their home cities, strengthening regional identity within the league.
While neither the board nor the franchise has issued a formal statement, the change is already visible online. The team, which previously branded itself as “Pindiz,” has updated its public-facing profiles to align with the new naming format. This shift follows earlier listings by the PCB where the team was referred to as “Rawalpindi Pindiz,” creating some inconsistency between official records and the franchise’s own branding.
The naming confusion became more noticeable after a recent Pakistan Super League update referred to the side as “Rawalpindiz,” while the franchise itself continued using “Pindiz” in its communications. This mismatch led to questions among fans and observers about the team’s official identity, prompting further clarification through updated branding.
Sources familiar with the matter indicate that the PCB instructed the franchise to incorporate “Rawalpindi” into its name to meet city-affiliation requirements. The league has increasingly emphasized clear geographic representation, ensuring that teams are directly associated with their respective cities to strengthen fan engagement and local support.
The franchise first introduced the name “Pindiz” in February 2026, which immediately sparked debate across social media. While some fans appreciated the creative twist on the city’s nickname, others criticized it for not clearly representing Rawalpindi. The mixed reaction likely contributed to the board’s decision to standardize the name.
Following the latest developments, the team has now fully aligned its branding with the league’s terminology, adopting “Rawalpindiz” across its platforms. This change is expected to reduce confusion and create a stronger connection between the franchise and its home base.
It is worth noting that the franchise was originally known as Multan Sultans before being acquired by Walee Technologies for a record Rs. 2.45 billion. After the acquisition, the team was relocated to Rawalpindi ahead of the upcoming PSL 11 season, marking a major shift in its identity and fan base.
