[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif slammed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Thursday, saying his “lies and lust for power have damaged Pakistan’s vital foreign policy interests.”

The premier went on a Twitter rant against the former prime minister, saying “his hypocrisy knows no bounds.”

“From accusing the United States of toppling his government to now wooing the US to mend fences, Imran Niazi’s hypocrisy knows no bounds,” the Prime Minister said.

Shehbaz’s statement comes just days after US Congressman Brad Sherman shared a letter he wrote to Secretary of State Antony Blinken about “democracy in Pakistan,” specifically the PTI’s alleged “political victimisation.”

Furthermore, earlier in March, the Democratic Party congressman released a video message in which he urged the US administration to support democracy and human rights in the country, citing “alleged custodial torture and sexual abuse of political figures” such as PTI leaders Shahbaz Gill and Azam Swati.

Foreign conspiracy narrative

Imran sent the Foreign Office cypher to Pakistan’s Chief Justice, Umar Ata Bandial, in April 2022, claiming that a foreign country had sent a threatening message through Pakistan’s envoy.

However, a few months later, the deposed premier reversed his “foreign conspiracy narrative,” in which he accused the US of orchestrating his demise by supporting the then-opposition’s no-confidence motion.

Imran had expressed a desire to work with Washington in an interview with the Financial Times, saying he wants to mend relations with the US despite accusing it of treating Pakistan as a “slave.”

If re-elected, the PTI chairman has stated that he will no longer “blame” the US and will seek a “dignified” relationship.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
