Karachi Traffic Police has rolled out a comprehensive traffic management plan ahead of the Eid shopping rush, aiming to reduce congestion around major markets and shopping areas. Additional personnel have been deployed, and restrictions will apply to rickshaws, taxis, and commercial vehicles on key roads.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Syed Pir Muhammad Shah stated that traffic staff and section officers are stationed across districts, performing duties daily from 7 pm until late night near busy shopping centers. Personnel will guide motorists and enforce traffic rules during peak shopping hours.
Under the plan:
- Rickshaws and taxis are restricted from Allah Wali Chowrangi to Ittehad Signal, Fawara Chowk to GPO, Singer Chowk to Zaibunnisa Street, and on Main Rashid Minhas Road.
- Commercial vehicles must use alternate routes, including Noorani Signal, Medi Care, Shahrah-e-Millat, Sarwar Shaheed Road, and Coast Guard Chowrangi.
- Traffic from Drigh Road will be directed through Millennium Bridge towards NIPA, while vehicles from KPT Underpass will move towards Clifton Bridge, with alternate routes available via Teen Talwar, Racecourse, or Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman Road if congestion occurs.
In addition, illegal rickshaw and taxi stands near supermarkets will be removed to prevent bottlenecks. Authorities emphasized that congestion near popular markets, such as Hyderi Market and North Karachi, will be managed through specific diversion routes.
DIG Traffic Shah urged citizens to cooperate with the traffic plan, follow alternate routes, and avoid stopping in restricted areas to ensure smooth movement during Eid shopping.
