Punjab Imposes 30-Day Ban on drones Across Province

The Punjab government has announced a strict and immediate ban on outdoor drone flying across the province for 30 days to address growing security and safety concerns. The decision was issued through an official notification by the Home Department, which used authority under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, to enforce the restriction.

Authorities stated that the increasing and uncontrolled use of drones has raised serious concerns about public safety, protection of private and public property, and maintenance of law and order. Officials warned that unauthorized drone activities could interfere with government operations, create security risks, and disturb the peaceful environment of the province. As a result, the temporary ban aims to reduce potential threats and ensure better control over aerial activities.

However, the restriction does not apply to small drones used for indoor events such as functions held in halls or marquees. Organizers of such events are responsible for ensuring safe and limited use within enclosed spaces. Additionally, the ban will not affect the use of drones by intelligence agencies and law enforcement authorities, as they are exempt for official and security-related purposes. The order will remain effective for 30 days from the date of issuance unless it is withdrawn earlier.

In a separate development, the inter-provincial highway connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab was reopened after being temporarily closed following a suicide attack at a security check post. The road had been sealed as a precaution after the attack, which resulted in the martyrdom of two police officers. Traffic resumed after security clearance and coordination between district administrations were completed.

The temporary closure had caused delays and difficulties for travelers and transporters, forcing many to wait for hours or take alternative routes at extra cost.
