Asia Cup 2023

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]With a protest, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has returned the agreement to host the Asia Cup to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

The PCB has objected to the agreement, claiming that it appears to favour India and that the venue for the tournament will be decided by them.

Najam Sethi, Chairman of the PCB Management Committee, stated that the board amended the document and returned it to the ACC with a letter requesting changes while keeping the “Hybrid Model” in mind.

The ACC has yet to respond to PCB’s concerns. The tournament’s alternate locations are likely to be the UAE, Sri Lanka, or Oman. If the changes are successfully implemented, it could serve as a model for future tournaments.

According to the details, Sethi stated in an exclusive interview that “When I took over at PCB, I asked if former Chairman Ramiz Raja had signed the contract to host the Asia Cup. What are the policies and procedures?”

For some time, the Chairman had been inquiring about the hosting agreement and was eventually able to obtain a copy. Sethi stated after reading the document that it appears that India will decide where the event will take place.

The PCB edited the document and returned it to the ACC, but they have yet to receive a response.

The cricket board has proposed that the matches be played at a neutral venue where the stadium will be fully occupied and the maximum revenue generated. India’s games will be played in neutral venues, while Pakistan’s will be played in Pakistani stadiums.

Other ACC members, according to Sethi, have stated that the Asia Cup does not exist without Pakistan. As a result, the PCB is optimistic that the decision will be in their favour.

The 74-year-old also suggested that the ICC should have a say in deciding where the World Cup will be held. However, he stressed that the “Hybrid Model” would need to be agreed upon first. If the results of the Asia Cup are positive, it will be reiterated that the model can be used for other events as well.

The Pakistan team’s participation in the World Cup in India is still uncertain. The PCB will seek the opinion of the government on this matter. For the time being, the focus is on the Asia Cup and how to proceed after the tournament.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
