The Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, expressed optimism that Pakistan will begin Ramadan 2026 on the same day across the country.
Maulana Azad told reporters that a unified start to fasting has been achieved in recent years, and, with Allah’s will, the tradition is expected to continue this year.
He confirmed that the central moon-sighting meeting will be held today in Peshawar, while zonal sessions are scheduled simultaneously in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Islamabad.
Technical experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, and SUPARCO are assisting the committee by providing scientific and meteorological input to ensure an informed decision.
According to a SUPARCO spokesperson, the new moon was born on Tuesday at 5:01 pm PST, and by sunset today, its age will be approximately 25 hours and 48 minutes, indicating a strong chance that the first fast could begin tomorrow, Thursday.
The spokesperson emphasized that the final and official announcement will be made by the Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after reviewing all reports and testimonies from the zonal committees.
