A new study has revealed that TikTok’s tracking tool, known as TikTok Pixel, is quietly monitoring millions of people across thousands of websites globally, even if they do not have a TikTok account. Every click, scroll, or page visit could potentially feed information into TikTok’s advertising ecosystem.
Experts warn that recent updates to the Pixel have expanded its capabilities, allowing it to collect personal information from website interactions such as form submissions or button clicks. This data can be sent to advertising networks automatically, often without users’ knowledge.
While TikTok maintains that its privacy policy is transparent and that website owners are responsible for sharing data, privacy specialists urge caution. They recommend using secure browsers, installing tracker-blocking extensions, and regularly reviewing privacy settings to minimize exposure.
TikTok and other social media platforms collect a wide range of data, including behavioral patterns, device information, location, videos watched, and user interactions. This information can be shared with advertisers, business partners, and service providers, enabling highly targeted ads and detailed profiling of users and non-users alike.
Despite TikTok offering privacy controls such as private accounts, restricted mode, and ad personalization, these measures do not fully stop background tracking. The Pixel continues to collect data silently, raising concerns about digital privacy and the reach of modern advertising tools.
