Punjab Plans New 1,000 Bed Children Hospital

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz unveiled plans to construct a new 1,000-bed children’s hospital during a ceremony for the CM Children Heart Surgery Program. She assured that public funds would be safeguarded from corruption and reiterated her commitment to enhancing pediatric healthcare across the province.

Addressing attendees, she expressed appreciation for the successful heart surgeries conducted under the program and announced that construction of the hospital at Nawaz Sharif Medical Hospital will commence in March.

Maryam Nawaz highlighted Punjab’s achievements in transplant procedures, noting that for the first time, 800 kidney and 200 bone marrow transplants were completed through a transplant card system. She thanked doctors, nurses, and hospital staff for their dedication, emphasizing that no child’s life would be lost due to treatment delays, despite 15,000 children previously on waiting lists.

She further shared that over 10,400 pediatric open-heart surgeries and interventional procedures have been performed in the province, compared to just 300 in the program’s first year. Infrastructure improvements, including a new cath lab in Mianwali, now allow patients to receive treatment locally.

The chief minister stressed strict hospital oversight to prevent negligence and praised medical staff for their commitment to public service. She also outlined additional healthcare initiatives: Rs. 100 billion worth of free medicines, free stroke injections, and Rs. 3 billion allocated for cancer treatments including ablation procedures.

Maryam Nawaz described the children’s heart surgery program as more than just medical care, calling it a healthcare revolution that provides life-saving treatment at no cost to patients, reinforcing her vision for accessible and high-quality pediatric healthcare across Punjab.
