A transformative transport initiative is gaining momentum as the government rolls out an ambitious electric vehicle program designed to make modern mobility affordable for millions. The scheme focuses on students, young workers, and women, offering subsidized electric bikes through easy installment plans to reduce financial barriers and promote independent travel across the country.
According to Hamad Ali Mansoor, head of the Engineering Development Board, authorities have already begun transferring subsidies to selected beneficiaries. He confirmed that the project is progressing rapidly, with thousands of applicants receiving confirmation messages and payment support as the first phase officially moves from planning to execution.
Officials revealed that a total of 116,000 electric bikes will be distributed under the program. In the opening phase alone, 41,000 electric vehicles are being supported, including 40,000 bikes and 1,000 electric rickshaws and loaders. This large-scale rollout reflects a strong push to modernize transportation while addressing rising fuel costs affecting everyday commuters.
The second phase is expected to extend assistance to more than 78,000 additional vehicles. Authorities say the government has earmarked nearly PKR 9 billion in subsidies for this year’s implementation. The funding demonstrates a strategic commitment to sustainable transport solutions that lower emissions, reduce expenses, and expand mobility opportunities nationwide.
Applicants must register through the official portal, where they are required to submit personal and eligibility details online. Officials emphasize that the system is fully digital and automated, ensuring transparency, fairness, and merit-based selection. This approach aims to eliminate favoritism and create equal access for qualified citizens regardless of background or location.
Policy makers believe the initiative will reshape personal transportation habits across Pakistan by encouraging clean energy adoption and empowering communities. By combining financial assistance with environmental goals, the scheme is expected to boost economic participation, improve mobility access, and mark a significant step toward a greener and more inclusive future.
