Iran Thratens Strong Retaliation Amid Nclear Deal Tensions

Iran has vowed a “crushing response” to any attack after US President Donald Trump warned that time is running out for a nuclear deal. The statement comes as the European Union moves to label Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a terrorist organisation.

Tensions have escalated after recent protests in Iran, during which Trump threatened military action over the government’s violent crackdown. Tehran has blamed the United States for encouraging unrest, calling the demonstrations “riots.” The standoff has drawn concern from regional and international actors.

The EU is expected to place the IRGC on its terrorist list, citing the crackdown that killed thousands. EU officials say the move is symbolic and will not significantly affect Iran, as the IRGC and its leaders are already under sanctions. The EU aims to condemn the IRGC’s actions while equating them with groups like Al-Qaeda and ISIS.

Iranian officials have warned of “destructive consequences” if the designation goes forward. Army chief Amir Hatami said Iran would respond forcefully to any attack, adding that 1,000 strategic drones have joined combat units.

The United States has sent a naval strike group to the Middle East. Trump emphasized that the US is “ready, willing, and able” to strike Iran if necessary and that negotiations over its nuclear program must happen quickly.

Regional powers are urging calm. Turkey has offered to mediate talks between Washington and Tehran, while Russia warned that any military action could cause chaos and dangerous consequences. Gulf states hosting US bases also stressed the risks of escalation.

Meanwhile, human rights groups report that anti-government protests in Iran have resulted in over 6,300 deaths and 40,000 arrests. Iranian authorities acknowledge thousands of deaths, claiming most were security personnel or civilians killed by “rioters.”
