The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority tax values for smartphones have been revised following updated custom valuation rules issued by the Federal Board of Revenue recently. The change mainly applies to importers bringing old and used phones into Pakistan.
Officials clarified that end consumers getting their personal phones PTA-approved will not see any change in payable tax amounts. However, the revision is expected to reduce market prices of imported used smartphones.
As a result, popular brands such as Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, and Google are likely to become more affordable in the used phone market. The revised values directly impact resale prices once PTA approval is added.
Under the new rates, the PTA tax for a used iPhone 14 has been fixed at Rs. 24,584 based on a $210 custom value. Combined with current market prices, the PTA-approved phone may cost between Rs. 120,000 and Rs. 150,000.
For the iPhone 14 Pro, the updated PTA tax stands at Rs. 28,616, calculated on a $290 custom value. This places the expected PTA-approved retail price in the range of Rs. 150,000 to Rs. 170,000.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 Pro Max now carries a PTA tax of Rs. 39,944 after applying a $360 custom value. With existing used prices, its expected market value could exceed Rs. 200,000.
Market sources say these revised prices will take time to fully reflect in retail markets, as existing stock was imported under older tax structures. Gradual adjustments are expected over the coming weeks.
