Sydney Sixers Star Praises Babar Azam as Best

Sydney Sixers wicketkeeper-batsman Lachlan Shaw has lavished praise on Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam, describing him as “unreal” and ranking him among the finest players in world cricket. Shaw shared his views during a conversation with former Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin, who asked about Babar’s participation in the 2025–26 Big Bash League (BBL 15).

In response, Shaw said Babar Azam is exceptional and firmly belongs among the world’s best batters. His remarks came during one of the most talked-about moments of the season, when Babar opened the innings for Sydney Sixers alongside Australian great Steve Smith in a clash against the Hobart Hurricanes at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

The pairing generated enormous excitement ahead of the match, with fans eager to witness two modern-day batting stars batting together. As Smith and Babar walked out to the middle, they were greeted by a near-capacity crowd. Young fans in particular tried to get closer, hoping for a quick high-five as the duo made their way onto the field. The two batters acknowledged the moment with a calm glove tap before settling in.

Unfortunately, the highly anticipated partnership was short-lived due to unfavorable weather conditions. After just five overs, rain interrupted play, and the match was eventually abandoned, leaving spectators disappointed after being denied a longer glimpse of the Smith–Babar combination.

Before the stoppage, Sydney Sixers showed positive intent, reaching 32 runs without loss in five overs. Steve Smith led the charge with 19 runs from 16 deliveries, hitting one four and one six, while Babar Azam contributed 9 runs from 14 balls, including a boundary.

With no further play possible, both teams were awarded one point each. The outcome lifted Hobart Hurricanes to 13 points, securing their place in the playoffs, while Sydney Sixers remained third on the standings with nine points from eight matches.
