Russia Slams US Action in Venezuela After Trump Claims Maduro Captured

Russia has strongly condemned reported US military action in Venezuela after former US president Donald Trump claimed American forces had “captured” President Nicolás Maduro.

In an official response, Moscow said any foreign military intervention in Venezuela would be a clear violation of international law and national sovereignty. Russian officials warned that such actions risk destabilising the entire Latin American region and could have serious global consequences.

Trump’s statement, made during a public appearance, sparked confusion and concern internationally, as Washington has issued no formal confirmation supporting the claim. US authorities remained silent on operational details, while analysts questioned the credibility and implications of the assertion made by the former president.

The Venezuelan government immediately rejected Trump’s remarks, calling them false, irresponsible, and part of a broader campaign to spread misinformation. Caracas accused Washington of attempting to undermine Venezuela’s leadership through psychological pressure, sanctions, and repeated threats of intervention.

Russia, a long-time ally of Venezuela, reiterated its support for President Maduro’s government, stressing that Venezuela’s political future must be decided by its people. Moscow also urged the United Nations and international community to prevent escalation and respect diplomatic solutions instead of military pressure.

Tensions between the United States and Venezuela have remained high for years, driven by sanctions, disputed elections, and accusations of human rights abuses. Trump’s comments have renewed fears of confrontation, with observers warning that unverified claims could further inflame an already fragile geopolitical situation.
