A 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck the Hindukush region of Afghanistan late Friday night. The earthquake was felt across many parts of Pakistan, including Islamabad, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the earthquake had a depth of 102 kilometers. The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported a slightly deeper quake at 124 kilometers, with its epicenter 121 kilometers east of Baghlān, Afghanistan. The earthquake occurred shortly after 2 am Pakistan Standard Time.
The earthquake’s tremors were felt in several cities of Punjab such as Lahore, Sargodha, Wah Cantt, Kasur, and Murree. Islamabad also experienced the shaking. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the quake was felt strongly in Peshawar, Swat, Nowshera, Dir, Shangla, Charsadda, Malakand, Mardan, Haripur, Hangu, and Balakot.
Gilgit-Baltistan residents reported feeling the earthquake in districts like Ghizer and others. Beyond Pakistan, social media users from India, Indian-administered Kashmir, and Afghanistan also shared their experiences of the tremors.
So far, no reports of damage or casualties have been confirmed. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to assess any potential impact from the earthquake.
