Still reeling from flash floods and heavy rains, residents faced fresh panic on Tuesday morning as a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several cities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to seismologists, the quake originated in Afghanistan’s Hindukush mountains at a depth of 190 kilometers. Tremors were felt in Peshawar, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Chitral, Haripur, Malakand, Batkhela, Mansehra, Swat, Mingora, Balakot, Battagram, Kohistan, and surrounding areas.
Though mild, the jolts were strong enough to prompt precautionary evacuations in some localities. No casualties or significant damage have been reported so far. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has advised people to remain vigilant and follow safety measures in anticipation of possible aftershocks.
