Customs officials at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport have seized 42 kilograms of silver and 11 iPhones from two passengers arriving from Dubai. The operation took place after authorities received a tip-off about suspected smuggling attempts on a flight from the United Arab Emirates. The confiscated items were found concealed in luggage and personal belongings during a detailed inspection by the customs team.
According to officials, the two passengers had attempted to bypass security checks by declaring minimal luggage and avoiding the red channel. However, their suspicious behavior prompted customs officers to carry out a thorough search. Upon inspection, large quantities of silver jewelry and bars were discovered, along with several latest-model iPhones.
The seized silver is estimated to be worth millions of rupees in the local market, while the confiscated phones were believed to be intended for illegal resale to avoid import duties. Customs authorities have initiated an investigation to trace the network behind the smuggling attempt and determine whether the suspects are part of a larger syndicate.
Both passengers were taken into custody for further questioning. Officials said more arrests could follow as evidence and digital data from the confiscated devices are analyzed. The case has also been forwarded to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for additional inquiries.
Airport customs teams have intensified operations in recent months to curb smuggling of gold, silver, electronic devices, and other high-value goods. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strict surveillance to protect the country’s economy from illegal trade activities.
Passengers have been warned against carrying undeclared precious metals or electronic gadgets, as strict legal action will be taken against violators under customs laws.
