3 Killed as 5.7-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Bangladesh, India

A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Dhaka, Bangladesh, killing at least three people. The tremors were felt widely across West Bengal and Northeast India.

Residents in Dhaka rushed out of their homes as buildings shook violently. Authorities reported damage to some structures in Bangladesh, but no major destruction was confirmed in India.

In Kolkata and surrounding areas, people evacuated high-rise buildings in panic. Authorities are assessing possible infrastructure damage and monitoring aftershocks.

The epicenter was near Narsingdi, at a shallow depth of around 10 km. Experts say shallow quakes can cause stronger shaking and localized damage.

Officials urged residents to remain cautious of aftershocks. Emergency services in both countries are on alert to respond to incidents.

No major disruptions to transport or utilities have been reported so far. Authorities continue to survey affected areas for further impact.
