3.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Karachi With Minor Tremors Reported

Karachi experienced light tremors on Wednesday morning after a 3.2 magnitude earthquake struck the city. The incident caused panic among citizens, but authorities confirmed no loss of life or property.

According to the National Seismological Centre, the earthquake hit at 9:34 am. Its epicentre was located seven kilometres northwest of Malir. The seismic activity was recorded at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres. Shallow earthquakes are often felt more strongly on the surface even when they are of low intensity.

Residents in different areas of Karachi, especially around Malir, reported feeling vibrations. In some places, the tremors were strong enough to send people rushing out of homes and offices. Despite the brief panic, no casualties or damage were reported.

The Meteorological Department and related agencies are monitoring the situation closely. Experts explained that such low-intensity tremors are often the result of natural energy release along seismic fault lines. They added that while these quakes are generally harmless, they can serve as reminders of the city’s vulnerability to seismic activity.

Karachi lies near active fault lines and has experienced mild quakes in the past. Seismologists say it is important for residents to remain alert and follow safety precautions. Even small tremors can be disruptive, and preparedness is essential for minimizing risks during stronger events.

Authorities have reassured citizens that the 3.2 magnitude earthquake poses no ongoing threat. However, they urged people not to panic in case of future tremors and to remain aware of emergency protocols.

The recent earthquake highlights the need for better public awareness and preparedness in earthquake-prone regions. Officials emphasize that simple safety measures, such as moving to open spaces during tremors, can help reduce risks and keep communities safe.
