At least 19 militants were killed and 11 Pakistani soldiers embraced martyrdom during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Orakzai district, according to the military’s media wing.

The operation was launched after security forces received credible intelligence about the presence of militants in the area. During the exchange of heavy gunfire, the militants — reportedly backed by external elements — were eliminated after intense resistance. Several weapons, ammunition, and communication devices were recovered from the hideout.

The Pakistan Army stated that the martyred soldiers fought bravely and prevented a major terrorist attack from being carried out inside the country. A sanitization operation is currently underway to clear the remaining pockets of resistance and ensure the complete elimination of hostile elements.

Security forces reaffirmed their commitment to root out terrorism from Pakistan at all costs, saying that such sacrifices strengthen the nation’s resolve. Local authorities have increased surveillance and movement restrictions in nearby areas to prevent any escape of surviving militants.

The military added that external support for such militant networks remains a major concern, as these groups continue attempts to destabilize peace and security in the region. The government and security agencies have vowed to respond with full force to any cross-border or foreign-backed terrorism.

The latest IBO in Orakzai reflects Pakistan’s continued counterterrorism efforts in the country’s north-western belt, an area that has witnessed repeated militant infiltration attempts in recent months.
