13 Buildings Officially Declared Unsafe in Lahore

Lahore authorities have identified 13 buildings as highly dangerous after a recent survey of 833 structures across the city district. These buildings have been flagged for urgent attention to prevent any potential accidents or incidents.

The results of the survey were discussed during a meeting of the district emergency board, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz. The meeting was attended by officials from Rescue 1122, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), and the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO).

During the discussion, officials emphasized that the hazardous buildings must undergo immediate maintenance and structural upgrades to bring them to A-category safety standards. This step is considered critical to ensure the safety of residents and occupants in the affected areas.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz instructed the immediate installation of fire hydrants in 665 industrial areas to enhance emergency preparedness. He also directed the WASA Managing Director to start installing fire hydrants in 108 commercial premises without delay. The DC stressed strict accountability for both officials and building owners who neglect fire safety and structural maintenance, emphasizing that all rules and regulations must be fully followed.

In addition to addressing building safety, the deputy commissioner announced plans to launch operations against encroachments in major commercial markets, including Shah Alam Market, Azam Cloth Market, and Ichra Bazaar. He also called for a complete ban on LPG decanting in these areas to reduce the risk of fire hazards.

To further improve safety across the city, the DC instructed LESCO to remove all unsafe and hanging electricity wires, which pose a danger to residents and businesses. These combined measures are part of a broader citywide effort to strengthen fire safety, infrastructure maintenance, and public protection.

The actions underscore the district administration’s focus on preventing accidents, enforcing safety regulations, and addressing long-standing hazards in Lahore’s commercial and residential areas. Ensuring proper maintenance, structural upgrades, and fire prevention measures remains a top priority for the authorities.
