Pakistan dismisses India's objection to the Pakistan-China joint statement on Kashmir

On June 8, Pakistan and China issued a joint statement reaffirming that Jammu and Kashmir is internationally recognized as a disputed territory. This statement came in response to comments from India’s Ministry of External Affairs made on June 3.

Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized that the Kashmir dispute has been on the United Nations Security Council’s agenda for over seven decades. She reiterated that Security Council resolutions state that the final resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue will be determined by the will of the people, expressed through a democratic and impartial plebiscite conducted under the auspices of the United Nations.

In light of these facts, Baloch declared India’s claims over Jammu and Kashmir to be unfounded and misleading. She further stated, “India should refrain from misleading the international community about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is a major development project agreed upon by two sovereign nations. Rather than making baseless claims about CPEC, India should promptly implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.” The joint statement and subsequent remarks by the spokesperson highlight the ongoing tension and differing perspectives between Pakistan, China, and India regarding the status and future of Jammu and Kashmir.
