[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]In the Super Four stage of the 2023 Asia Cup, Pakistan fast bowler Zaman Khan made his ODI debut as a replacement for Naseem Shah in a crucial match against Sri Lanka. Despite Pakistan failing to advance to the tournament’s final round, Khan’s performance in the rain-affected match was commendable. Defending a total of 252 runs, the Pakistani bowling lineup displayed resilience, and the match was decided on the final ball.

Zaman Khan was entrusted with delivering the crucial death over, with Sri Lanka needing eight runs to win. He demonstrated his skills in the first three deliveries but then conceded a thick outside edge on the fifth ball, reducing Sri Lanka’s score to 2 runs. Sri Lanka ultimately won the match by two wickets.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shared an interview with Zaman Khan on social media, where he revealed his humble beginnings. He disclosed that he used to work as a laborer with his father and brother, specifically as a loader at a brick kiln in his hometown.

Regarding his entry into the world of cricket, Khan explained that he began by watching people play cricket at a local ground. One day, he expressed his desire to play and was given a ball to deliver an over. His first attempt resulted in 12 wide deliveries, but he persisted, and the next day, he bowled without a single wide. This marked the beginning of his interest in becoming a fast bowler.

Khan continued, mentioning that despite being sick, he would skip school to play cricket. Eventually, a family member encouraged him to attend trials for the Under-16 Mirpur team. He successfully made it through the trials and represented Pakistan in Australia, where he excelled as a wicket-taker.

His outstanding performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) earned him recognition as the best emerging talent. This achievement fueled his ambition to play for the Pakistan national team. He knew he had to work even harder and perform well in domestic cricket.

Zaman Khan expressed his desire to establish a cricket academy in his hometown to provide opportunities for children interested in the sport. He concluded by acknowledging how cricket had transformed his life and allowed him to support his family in significant ways. Cricket, he emphasized, had greatly improved his livelihood.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
