Sher Afzal Marwat Contests NA-32 Peshawar Seat
PTI’s Senior Vice President, Sher Afzal Marwat, formally declared his candidacy for the upcoming Peshawar elections by submitting nomination papers for NA-32. His cousin, Salahuddin, represented him during the nomination process. Notably, PTI founder Imran Khan won NA-32 (now NA-31) in the October 2022 by-election, securing over 32,000 votes against PDM-backed Ghulam Ahmed Bilour of ANP.
In a significant political shift, former PAC chairman Noor Alam Khan announced his affiliation with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F). During a press conference in Peshawar with JUI-F’s Provincial Amir Senator Maulana Attaur Rehman, Khan expressed confidence in Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s leadership. He regretted the delayed decision to join JUI-F, citing admiration for Maulana’s leadership skills.
Commenting on the May 9 events, Khan condemned them as shameful and emphasized his consistent opposition to such actions. He distanced himself from the mindset that leads to riots and highlighted the importance of avoiding targeting institutions during protests. Upholding Pakistan’s unity, Khan affirmed his dedication to working against any actions that undermine the country’s integrity, emphasizing a commitment beyond party lines.
