Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Seeks ECP Party Registration

Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, a dissatisfied member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has opted to establish his own political entity, as revealed on Monday. According to reports, this seasoned politician has formally applied to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the registration of his new political party. Abbasi has diligently submitted all necessary documentation required under the Election Act 2017 to the electoral authority.

Addressing the media, the veteran politician affirmed that he has completed the paperwork and submitted it to the ECP, expressing his intention to contest the upcoming elections under the banner of his newly formed political party. Notably, he abstained from participating in the February 8 general elections.

In the previous year, Abbasi stepped down from his position as the senior vice president of the PML-N due to discord with the party on several fronts. Having served as the 21st Prime Minister of Pakistan until May 2018, he has been a fixture in the National Assembly for over three decades, spanning eight non-consecutive terms. Additionally, Abbasi held the position of Chairman of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) until 1999.
