Motorcyclists riding without side-view mirrors and functioning indicators will face fines under a new enforcement campaign launched by the City Traffic Police Lahore.
According to the traffic police, action will be taken against riders using motorcycles that do not have the mandatory safety equipment, including side-view mirrors and working indicators. The move is aimed at improving road safety and reducing traffic accidents across Punjab.
The department also announced that awareness campaigns and driver education sessions will be conducted to educate motorists about traffic rules and the importance of complying with safety regulations.
Traffic police officials said the absence of side-view mirrors and indicators is one of the major causes of road accidents, as riders often fail to notice vehicles approaching from behind or changing lanes.
Motorcyclists have been urged to ensure their motorcycles are equipped with all required safety features to protect themselves and other road users while avoiding penalties under the new enforcement drive.
The development comes as authorities continue to strengthen traffic law enforcement and encourage safer driving practices across the province.
Meanwhile, the Sindh High Court is hearing a petition challenging the provincial law that exempts motorcycles from having side-view mirrors.
During the hearing, the petitioner argued that riders wearing helmets cannot properly observe traffic from either side without mirrors, increasing the risk of accidents. The petition also requested the court to direct the government to repeal the exemption and introduce fines for motorcycles operating without side mirrors.
