Punjab is preparing for the fourth monsoon spell of the season, with heavy rainfall forecast across the province until August 5. Authorities have issued flood warnings and urged residents to remain vigilant as rising water levels, urban flooding, and landslides pose risks in several districts.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has placed all district administrations and emergency response agencies on high alert. Officials have been directed to remain fully prepared to deal with any weather-related emergencies during the upcoming spell.
According to the weather forecast, heavy rain is expected in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Okara, Pakpattan, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Narowal. Several districts in southern Punjab are also likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall over the coming days.
The PDMA has warned that low-lying areas of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Multan could experience urban flooding if rainfall intensifies. Meanwhile, Murree, Galiyat, and other hilly regions remain vulnerable to landslides due to continuous rain.
Officials also cautioned that heavy rainfall in upper catchment areas could significantly increase water levels in rivers, streams, and hill torrents, raising the risk of flooding in vulnerable locations across the province.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has instructed commissioners, deputy commissioners, and relevant departments to activate emergency response plans, ensure drainage systems remain operational, and keep rescue teams on standby throughout the forecast period.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has also directed district administrations to maintain round-the-clock vigilance and respond immediately to any emergency caused by the expected rains. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with rescue services.
The PDMA has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather, stay away from weak or mud-built structures, and remain indoors during thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning. Parents have also been urged to keep children away from stagnant rainwater, electricity poles, and overhead power lines, while residents in flood-prone areas should closely follow official weather advisories and emergency instructions.
