Punjab Introduces Juvenile Permit for Riders Aged 16–18

The Punjab Traffic Police has introduced a Juvenile Driving Permit facility for teenagers aged 16 to 18 years, allowing eligible young riders to legally operate motorcycles under specific conditions. The initiative aims to promote road safety, encourage responsible driving habits, and ensure that young motorists receive proper authorization before taking to the roads.

According to details shared by the City Traffic Police Faisalabad, applicants must provide a Smart Card or Form-B as proof of identity and age. The permit fee has been set at Rs1,000 for 16-year-old applicants, while individuals aged 17 to 18 years will be required to pay Rs500. Authorities say the permit system is designed to regulate underage motorcycle use and improve compliance with traffic regulations.

Under the new policy, a parent or legal guardian must accompany the applicant during the registration process. The guardian is required to provide a copy of their CNIC along with one passport-size photograph. Officials believe parental involvement will help ensure greater accountability and awareness regarding safe driving practices among young riders.

The Juvenile Driving Permit comes with strict limitations. Permit holders will not be allowed to ride at speeds exceeding 60 kilometers per hour. In addition, they may only operate motorcycles with engine capacities of up to 125cc. These restrictions have been introduced to reduce the risk of accidents and encourage safer driving among inexperienced riders.

Traffic authorities have emphasized that compliance with all traffic laws and safe riding practices will be mandatory for permit holders. Any violations could result in penalties or other legal action. The initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve road safety and reduce traffic-related incidents involving young motorists across the province.

Officials have advised interested applicants and their families to visit their nearest Driving Licence Center for additional information and application procedures. The program is expected to provide a legal framework for teenage motorcycle riders while promoting responsible behavior and greater road discipline throughout Punjab.
