Punjab has announced a new admission policy for MBBS and BDS programmes for the 2026-27 academic session. The policy applies to public and private medical and dental colleges across the province. The University of Health Sciences (UHS) will manage the centralised admission process.
Students planning to pursue medical or dental education should review the admission requirements, merit formula, college preference rules and fee deadlines before applying. Meeting the eligibility criteria will be essential for candidates seeking admission to government and private institutions.
MDCAT Carries 50% Weight in Merit Formula
Passing the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) remains compulsory under the announced policy. The test will carry the highest weight in the overall admission merit calculation.
The merit formula assigns 50% weight to MDCAT marks, 40% to FSc results and 10% to matriculation marks. These three components will determine candidates’ positions on the admission merit lists.
Students should prepare carefully for MDCAT while also ensuring strong academic results in their intermediate and matriculation examinations. Their combined scores will play an important role in determining their chances of securing admission.
Eligibility Criteria for MBBS and BDS
Applicants must secure at least 60% marks in FSc to qualify for admission under the stated criteria. Biology and Chemistry are compulsory subjects. Candidates must also pass either Physics or Mathematics.
Students who do not meet the required academic conditions will not qualify for admission under this policy. Applicants should check their educational records before submitting an application to avoid problems during the admission process.
College Preference Rules
The policy sets different rules for selecting college preferences in public and private institutions.
Candidates applying to public medical colleges must list all colleges in their preferred order. Applicants should therefore carefully consider their choices before submitting the application.
Students applying to private medical colleges can select as many institutions as they wish. The policy does not impose a limit on the number of private medical colleges they can include in their preference list.
These rules make it important for applicants to understand the requirements for their chosen admission category before completing the application process.
Admission Fee Deadline
Candidates who secure admission must deposit their fees within three working days after the publication of the relevant merit list. Missing this deadline could create problems for selected students, so applicants should regularly check official admission announcements.
Students should also keep their required documents and payment arrangements ready to complete the process within the specified period.
Public Medical College Tuition Fee
Punjab has set the annual tuition fee for open-merit seats at public medical and dental colleges at Rs. 50,000. This rate applies to students admitted through the open-merit category at government institutions.
The announced policy provides key information for students preparing to enter medical and dental colleges in the 2026-27 academic session. However, applicants should consult the official UHS admission notice for the complete schedule, application instructions and any additional conditions before making decisions.
With MDCAT accounting for half of the overall merit, students should focus on test preparation alongside their academic performance. Understanding the eligibility requirements, college preference rules and fee deadline can also help applicants avoid mistakes during the admission process.
