A 23-year-old woman sustained multiple injuries after three armed suspects allegedly attempted to sexually assault her at Ankara Park in Islamabad, according to a report published by Dawn.
Police sources said the woman was walking through the park when the suspects allegedly confronted her at gunpoint and snatched her mobile phone. They then reportedly attempted to take her towards a nearby wooded area.
The woman resisted, leading to a confrontation that left her with several injuries, including wounds to her face. The suspects eventually fled after allegedly failing to overpower her.
Woman Reports Incident to Police
According to the report, the woman later approached the police and reported the incident. Authorities registered a case and began investigating the allegations.
The incident has raised concerns about public safety in recreational spaces in the federal capital, particularly regarding the security of people visiting parks and other public areas.
The suspects’ identities and the progress of the investigation were not detailed in the report.
Another Sexual Assault Case Reported in Islamabad
The Ankara Park incident comes amid another reported sexual assault case involving a 26-year-old woman in Islamabad’s Gangal area.
According to the police account, the woman was returning from work late in the evening when several local men allegedly intercepted her near Gangal stop.
The suspects reportedly took her to a nearby wooded area, where she was sexually assaulted before they fled.
The woman subsequently contacted the police and was taken to a hospital for a medico-legal examination.
Police Register Case Under Section 376
Police registered a case in the Gangal incident under Section 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with punishment for rape.
The investigation is expected to focus on identifying the suspects and establishing the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.
The two reported incidents have renewed concerns about the safety of women travelling or walking alone, particularly in isolated areas.
Calls for Public Safety and Accountability
The reported incidents highlight the importance of effective security arrangements, timely police response and thorough investigations into allegations of violence against women.
Improved surveillance, visible patrols and accessible reporting mechanisms can help authorities respond to safety concerns in public spaces.
Investigators will need to establish the facts of each case and pursue legal action against anyone found responsible.
Both cases remain matters for police investigation, and allegations against suspects should be assessed through the legal process.
