The PTA has introduced new restrictions on the sale of SIM cards across Pakistan. The PTA has directed all cellular mobile operators to stop SIM sales during late-night hours.
According to the new directive, SIM cards cannot be sold between 12:00 AM and 6:00 AM. This restriction applies nationwide. It covers all franchises, retail shops, and authorized sales centers.
The PTA said the decision aims to improve control over SIM issuance. It also seeks to reduce the risk of fraud and unauthorized mobile connections. Officials believe stricter monitoring will improve security.
The PTA has instructed all telecom operators to fully comply with the new timing rules. It warned that any violation will result in strict legal and regulatory action. The action will be taken under telecom laws.
Authorities emphasized that compliance is mandatory for all operators and retailers. No exceptions will be allowed under the new instructions. The PTA has asked companies to adjust their operational systems accordingly.
Citizens have also been advised by the PTA to follow proper procedures when buying SIM cards. They should only purchase SIMs from authorized outlets. They must also complete biometric verification before activation.
Officials said these steps are linked to national security requirements. The PTA believes stronger checks will help prevent misuse of mobile connections. It will also improve the accuracy of SIM registration data.
The PTA has encouraged the public to report any violations. Several complaint channels have been made available for this purpose. These include the Complaint Management System (CMS) and the PTA mobile application.
Users can also report issues through a WhatsApp Digital Assistant at 0315-0055055. A toll-free helpline, 0800-55055, is also available for assistance.
The PTA said these reporting tools will help ensure transparency and accountability. It also aims to improve public participation in regulatory enforcement.
