PM And Chief Justice To Discuss Intelligence Agency Allegations

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to meet with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJ) Qazi Faez Isa today following allegations leveled by senior judges against the country’s intelligence agencies regarding their interference in judicial matters and intimidation.

Senior judges of the Islamabad High Court penned a letter to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) to investigate the allegations against the military’s intelligence agency.

In response to these revelations, Pakistan’s top judge called for a meeting with a full panel of 15 Supreme Court judges to discuss the matter.

Prime Minister Sharif, along with the Law Minister, Attorney General, and other officials, will convene with Chief Justice Isa and Senior Puisne Judge Syed Mansoor Ali Shah at 2 pm at the apex court.

Prior to the full-court meeting on Wednesday, the Attorney General and Law Minister also held discussions with Justice Isa, expressing concerns about the timing of the letter.

Reports in local media suggest that the prime minister is likely to urge CJP Isa to conduct an inquiry into the allegations made by IHC judges and former judge Shaukat Siddiqui.
