PCB Names Shaheen Afridi As New Test Vice Captain

Aalia Rasheed, the Director of Media at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has announced that fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will be the vice-captain for Pakistan’s Test cricket team in the upcoming three-match Test series.

Afridi, who was recently appointed as the permanent T20I captain, has an impressive cricket record, having played 27 Tests, 53 ODIs, and 52 T20Is for Pakistan.

The left-arm pacer is set to play his 28th Test in the upcoming match, scheduled for tomorrow, December 14, 2023.

The PCB has confirmed the playing XI, featuring Afridi, for the first Test. This will be Afridi’s second Test tour in Australia, as he was part of the previous team that visited the country.

The bowling attack will be led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, supported by two debutant fast bowlers, Khurram Shahzad, and Aamir Jamal.

Both newcomers have showcased outstanding performances in this season’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Pakistan’s premier first-class tournament. With the additional experience of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Faheem Ashraf in the Test arena, they aim to contribute significantly to the series.
