Eid ul Azha will be celebrated across Pakistan on May 27 after the Zilhaj moon was officially sighted in different parts of the country on Sunday.
The announcement was made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee following its official moon sighting meeting held in Karachi. The session took place at the Met Office and was chaired by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad.
Officials stated that members of the central and zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees participated in the meeting along with experts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department and SUPARCO. After reviewing testimonies and scientific observations, the committee confirmed the sighting of the Zilhaj crescent moon.
With the moon sighting confirmed, the first day of Zilhaj will begin on May 18, while Eid ul Azha will be observed nationwide on May 27. The religious festival is one of the most significant occasions in the Islamic calendar and is marked by special prayers and animal sacrifices in remembrance of the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has also officially confirmed the sighting of the Zilhaj moon. According to reports from Arab media, Saudi authorities announced that Eid ul Azha will also fall on May 27. The annual Wuquf-e-Arafah, considered the most important ritual of Hajj, will take place on May 26.
In addition to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, Indonesia has also announced the sighting of the Zilhaj moon. Authorities in the Southeast Asian country confirmed that Eid ul Azha will be celebrated there on May 27 as well.
The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs officially declared the beginning of Zilhaj and announced the Eid date after receiving verified moon sighting reports.
The confirmation of Eid ul Azha dates in several Muslim countries has increased preparations for the religious occasion, with markets, livestock traders, and citizens actively making arrangements for the upcoming festival.
