Pakistan Army Asserts No Compromise With May 9 Culprits

The Pakistan Army strongly condemned the violence that erupted on May 9, 2023, and reiterated its determination to hold accountable those responsible for planning, facilitating, and executing the riots following the arrest of a former prime minister.

On the first anniversary of the deadly riots, a statement from the military’s media wing, ISPR, underscored the Armed Forces’ condemnation of the criminal acts committed on that day. They remembered it as one of the darkest events in the nation’s history, fueled by political motives, wherein miscreants manipulated and incited violence against state institutions and national heritage sites.

ISPR labeled the violence as a misguided attempt at revolution, orchestrated to destabilize the country by sowing discord between the people and the military. Despite concerted efforts to disrupt national unity, the Armed Forces exercised great restraint in the face of orchestrated violence, thwarting attempts to create conflict.

The Army emphasized that those responsible for the tragedy on May 9 must be held accountable to prevent future desecration of national symbols and heroes. There can be no compromise on this matter, and justice must be served.

Furthermore, the Army Chief, along with the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and Services Chiefs, reaffirmed their commitment to defending Pakistan’s sovereignty and defeating both external and internal threats. They pledged to uphold the dignity and respect of the Armed Forces, emphasizing the special bond between the military and the people.
