Next Pakistan PM election Scheduled For March 3

The National Assembly is set to choose the new prime minister on March 3, according to the schedule issued by the secretariat of the lower house of parliament. The deadline for submitting nomination papers for the position is 2 pm on March 2, with scrutiny of the papers taking place until 3 pm on the same day.

The PML-N backed alliance has put forward Shehbaz Sharif, while the PTI has nominated Omar Ayub for the role. Securing 169 votes is essential for victory in the election. With the PML-N and its allies already surpassing 200 votes, there are strong prospects for Shehbaz Sharif to reclaim the position of prime minister.

During the inaugural session of the 16th National Assembly, newly elected members took their oath amid disorder and commotion. President Arif Alvi had belatedly called for the inaugural session late the previous night, opposing the caretaker administration’s summary to schedule the session for the oath-taking of newly elected lawmakers on February 29. He objected on the grounds that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had not allocated all the reserved seats in the house, rendering it incomplete.

The session was convened shortly before the house was slated to gather for the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected Members of the National Assembly of Pakistan.
