Nawaz, Zardari Promise To Protect State In Rare Call

Following Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, the Co-Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), engaged in a phone call with him, congratulating Sharif and expressing their commitment to working together to protect the state, as reported by Express News. Sources from the PML-N indicated that the conversation focused on offering congratulations to Sharif and their joint determination to address the country’s challenges. They also pledged to make important decisions to ease the economic difficulties faced by the people. There is potential for a future face-to-face meeting between Zardari and Sharif.

Earlier, a PML-N meeting was held in Lahore with Nawaz Sharif presiding, but PML-N’s Information Secretary, Marriyum Aurangzeb, refuted reports about the discussions, dismissing them as baseless and unverified. She emphasized that only the party’s information secretary had the authority to release information about the party’s meetings. Marriyum Aurangzeb also criticized the PPP for raising concerns about fairness ahead of the upcoming elections and advised them to actively participate and prepare for the electoral process.

In response to Marriyum’s remarks about a level playing field, PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi made a humorous reference to their former coalition partner’s connection to the Avenfield apartments case. It’s important to note that Nawaz Sharif was convicted in the Avenfield apartments case by an accountability court in 2018, and he has filed an appeal with the IHC to overturn his sentences in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia cases upon his return.
