Murree has tightened tourist movement rules ahead of the August 14 Independence Day rush. Authorities have imposed Section 144 across key parts of the hill station.
The restrictions came into effect on August 10 and will remain in place until August 16, 2026. The measures mainly cover crowded areas, including Mall Road and GPO Chowk.
Authorities expect thousands of tourists to visit Murree during the Independence Day holiday period. The new restrictions aim to control crowds, traffic congestion and possible law and order issues.
Under the new arrangements, tourist families will be allowed to enter Mall Road and GPO Chowk. Individuals and groups without families may face restrictions at designated checkpoints.
The decision does not mean that Murree has been closed to tourists. Visitors can still travel to other popular destinations across the hill station.
Tourists can visit places such as Patriata and Kashmir Point during the holiday period. Other scenic viewpoints and chairlift facilities are also expected to remain available.
The administration has taken the measures after receiving recommendations from local police authorities. Officials said controlling tourist movement is necessary during the expected holiday rush.
Traffic is expected to remain one of the biggest challenges for visitors. Heavy vehicle movement is likely on the Islamabad-Murree Expressway and Rawalpindi-Murree Road.
Thousands of vehicles could travel toward Murree during the Independence Day weekend. Motorists may face long queues, checkpoints and delays on major routes.
Visitors traveling to Murree have been advised to carry valid identification and vehicle documents. Police personnel may conduct checks at entry points and other designated locations.
Tourists should also avoid unnecessary roadside parking near Mall Road and GPO Chowk. Limited road space could make traffic congestion worse in these busy areas.
Authorities have encouraged visitors to use designated parking facilities where possible. Tourists can then reach crowded central areas on foot or through available local transport services.
The restrictions are expected to remain until August 16 as authorities monitor tourist activity. Visitors planning a trip should prepare for traffic delays and checkpoint checks.
The administration hopes the measures will help maintain order while allowing families to enjoy Independence Day celebrations in Murree.
