Police in Islamabad have registered a total of 432 cases of kidnapping and sexual assault during the first five months of 2026, according to official data obtained from local media reports. The figures have raised serious concerns about public safety in the federal capital.
The data shows that 55 cases of sexual assault and 377 cases of kidnapping were reported between January and May across different police jurisdictions in Islamabad. Authorities recorded incidents from multiple zones, highlighting a widespread pattern of reported crimes across the city.
Among sexual assault cases, the Soan Zone reported the highest number with 15 cases. It was followed by Sadar Zone with 13 cases, Rural Zone with 12, Industrial Area Zone with 9, and City Zone with 6 cases. Officials confirmed that some of the cases involved minors and were registered under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including serious legal provisions.
Kidnapping cases were more frequent, with Sadar Zone leading at 99 reported incidents. Soan Zone recorded 89 cases, Rural Zone 76, City Zone 44, and Industrial Area Zone 29. Law enforcement officials are continuing investigations into several of these cases, including those involving missing persons later found in other provinces.
In one disturbing incident, a man kidnapped from outside his residence in Islamabad was later found dead in Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In another case, a victim abducted from the capital was also discovered murdered in a separate province, further intensifying public concern over cross-regional crime links.
Despite the rising figures, police officials have not publicly explained the underlying causes behind the increase in reported cases. The situation highlights ongoing challenges for law enforcement agencies in addressing serious crimes, improving investigative response, and ensuring stronger public safety measures across Islamabad.
