Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Brigadier (retd) Aslam Ghuman has claimed that party founder Imran Khan could be released from prison this year, saying high-level talks regarding his situation are currently underway.
Speaking in an interview, Ghuman said discussions involving Imran Khan were taking place at a high level. He claimed that he had personally spoken to some individuals involved in the negotiations but refused to reveal their identities.
According to the PTI lawmaker, the names of those involved in the talks were confidential and could not be disclosed. He described the information as a matter of trust and said he would not reveal the identities of the people involved.
Ghuman also claimed that Imran Khan would not accept any political arrangement that allowed what he described as the existing political “monopoly” to continue alongside him. His comments suggest that any possible agreement involving the PTI founder could face political conditions beyond simply securing his release.
The PTI MNA expressed confidence that Imran Khan would be released from prison before the end of the year. He argued that Pakistan could not continue to be governed under the current political circumstances.
However, no official confirmation has been provided regarding any agreement for Imran Khan’s release. The claim about ongoing negotiations also remains based on Ghuman’s remarks, while the identities of the people allegedly involved in the talks have not been disclosed.
Ghuman also strongly criticised the current government during his remarks. He described those in power as an “incompetent and corrupt group” and accused them of failing to deliver effective governance. These were political allegations made by the PTI lawmaker and were not independently established in his remarks.
The PTI politician further praised Qaiser Sheikh, calling him an honest and respectable person. He also claimed that Sheikh was not a beneficiary of what he referred to as “Form 47” politics.
Commenting on the government’s internal functioning, Ghuman questioned the level of access between senior officials and the prime minister. He said it reflected “Pharaoh-like arrogance” if even a federal minister was unable to meet the prime minister.
Ghuman also criticised the chief minister and other government officials, alleging that their activities were focused more on air travel than solving governance problems and addressing issues faced by the public.
The latest remarks come amid continued political uncertainty surrounding Imran Khan and the PTI. Ghuman’s prediction of a possible release this year could attract further attention, particularly if reports of high-level talks continue to emerge. For now, however, there is no confirmed announcement of a release date or formal political agreement.
