Hammad Azhar Vacates Senior PTI Positions

Amid his concealment since the May 9 incident, Hammad Azhar, a prominent figure within PTI, relinquished his party roles on Wednesday due to his incapacity to lead effectively during the ongoing challenges.

Azhar has stepped down from his positions as General Secretary and acting president of PTI’s Punjab chapter. He made his resignation public via a two-page letter shared on the social media platform X.

Expressing the reasons behind his decision to Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Omar Ayub, Azhar disclosed being implicated in 42 false terrorism cases and subjected to a ban from all electronic media by PEMRA. He lamented frequent raids, property searches, and harassment of his family, leading him to relocate his wife and children abroad to shield them from constant distress.

Acknowledging the honor of his position, Azhar deemed it self-centered to persist while remaining concealed and unable to represent the party, even on television. He advocated for Punjab’s leadership to be visible, assertive, and in direct communication with the party’s founding chairman, as well as having access to him for guidance.

Azhar affirmed his commitment to PTI, vowing to continue serving as a devoted and ideological party member, albeit without official titles.
