Flour prices have increased sharply in several Pakistani cities, with a 20-kilogram bag becoming Rs. 400 more expensive within a week. According to the latest Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data, prices have reached Rs. 3,400 in Islamabad, Karachi, and Peshawar.
The increase has affected several major cities, although prices have remained unchanged in some locations. Bannu recorded the highest weekly increase, while Rawalpindi and Islamabad also experienced significant price hikes.
In Bannu, the price of a 20-kilogram flour bag increased by Rs. 400 to Rs. 3,300. Rawalpindi recorded a rise of Rs. 347, bringing the price to Rs. 3,333.
Islamabad saw an increase of Rs. 333, taking the price to Rs. 3,400 per bag. The same weekly increase was recorded in Sialkot, where the price reached Rs. 3,133.
Peshawar also experienced a substantial rise of Rs. 300. This brought the price of a 20-kilogram flour bag to Rs. 3,400. In Sukkur, the same increase pushed the price to Rs. 3,060.
Flour Prices Increase in Karachi and Other Cities
Karachi recorded a weekly increase of Rs. 200, with a 20-kilogram bag now costing Rs. 3,400. Gujranwala also experienced a Rs. 200 increase, bringing the price to Rs. 3,000.
In Hyderabad, flour prices rose by Rs. 200 to Rs. 3,200 per bag. These increases reflect the broader upward movement reported across several urban markets.
Bahawalpur recorded an increase of Rs. 180, taking the price to Rs. 2,960. Meanwhile, Sargodha saw a rise of Rs. 106, bringing the price to Rs. 2,866.
In Larkana, the price increased by Rs. 80 to Rs. 2,900. Quetta recorded a smaller rise of Rs. 70, with a 20-kilogram bag reaching Rs. 3,030.
Multan also experienced an increase, although the rise was relatively limited. The price went up by Rs. 66 to Rs. 2,866 per bag.
Prices Remain Stable in Three Cities
Despite the widespread increases, flour prices remained unchanged in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Khuzdar.
In Lahore, a 20-kilogram bag continued to sell for Rs. 2,300. Faisalabad recorded the lowest price among these three cities, at Rs. 2,200 per bag.
In Khuzdar, the price remained stable at Rs. 3,000. These figures show considerable differences in flour prices across the country.
Latest PBS Data Shows Widespread Increases
The latest PBS figures highlight rising flour prices in numerous cities over the past week. Bannu recorded the largest increase, while Islamabad, Karachi, and Peshawar reported the highest listed price of Rs. 3,400 per bag.
The price changes vary significantly between cities. Some markets experienced increases of several hundred rupees, while others recorded smaller rises or no change.
